Apple Tidal
Only 19 when Tidal was originally released, Fiona Apple put her
huge, doleful peepers to good use on the sleeve photo. Musically,
however, she managed to eschew the overwrought mannerisms of, say,
Tori Amos (to whom she was compared) to create a remarkably tempered
stab at singer-songwriter confessional. Tidal is rich and soulful
to boot. The song Criminal is a classic.

The
Foo Fighters This is the foo fighters last album
it was released a while ago but It remains their best album. Dave
Ghrol fronts this band (see top totty section) Ghrol was the drummer
from Nirvana, and he brings this grunge influence into the foo fighters
yet their sound is bang up to date..look out for their new song The
One (very Class!) |

Fever
Kylie Minogue
Light years ahead of the opposition, this is another lethally pure
musical concoction from the sexiest thirty-something in pop. Includes
the singles
'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' and 'in Your Eyes'. Austrailia's
pop pixie has done it again with this album proving she is timeless,
and to boot she is looking bloody good for a thirty year old. |

Adore smashing pumpkins
Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early nineties, the
Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional underground
rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam
of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream
pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted
guitars and patented loud-quiet dynamics that were the group's calling
card. Plus this album has the song Ava Adore on it! |

Nickelback
Radiating with timeless melodies, strident guitar hooks, and cleverly
addictive songwriting, Nickelback may draw comparisons to such
contemporaries as Creed, Staind or Bush, but with their latest effort,
the Vancouver quartet has truly established their own identity. 'Silver
Side Up'
is, musically speaking, equal parts melody, emotion and pure rock,
kicking off with 'Never Again', an intense denunciation of domestic
abuse and spanning the full musical spectrum - from the catchy rock
ballad 'How You Remind Me' to the sludgy, alt-metal 'Hollywood' and
beyond. |

Laundry
Service Shakira
Already a huge star in Latin America, Shakira's first English language
album is set to take the UK by storm. 'Laundry Service' breaks through
cultural boundaries, making the world dance as one. |

Creed
Weathered
Although chris will disagree with my musical taste here, It's not
easy to find a success story as genuine as Creed's in popular culture
these days, with all the carefully scripted rises to glory and the
falls that inevitably follow careers built on hype. If any band in
recent years can claim to have ascended strictly on its own merits,
it's Creed. This Florida-bred band went from zero to sixty, (or, more
accurately, from zero to selling more than fifteen million albums)
by virtue of a combination of finger-on-the-pulse songs and powerful
live erformances, rather than a
raft of hype. Creed's moody guitar grunge and ardent lyrics, coupled
with singer Scott Stapp's (also see top totty) passionate vocals,
helped 'Human Clay' sell millions. |

kerrang
What a year 2001's
been for metal! The last year has
seen rock music of all shapes and sizes take on the mainstream at
their own game, and win. Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach and Wheatus have
all had smash hit singles this year, whilst in the shape of Slipknot
and Staind there are two bands that entered the UK album charts
at number one over consecutive weeks. On a purely musical level,
there's very little the aforementioned have in common, but they're
united by that simple but essential quality - attitude. A desire
to stick two fingers up at convention and corrupt as many people
along the way as humanly possible. Which brings us nicely to 'Kerrang!
- The Album 2'. Over the course of its thirty-eight tracks you'll
find highlights from some of the biggest, the best and most important
records of the year - including tracks from Linkin Park, OPM, Sum
41, Marilyn Manson and many, many more.
